- 3 One-shot devices Thermal fuses and limits do not reset. An opened fuse lets a unit power up and behave normally right until heat is demanded, which is what sends people straight to the board.

- 5 Mechanical and airflow Caps seated on their rings, orifices matched to the fuel the house runs, electrode gaps, blower wheels, hinges and door seals. A large share of calls finish at this step.
- 6 The board, last Only once supply, fuses, sensors and mechanics are clear. It is the most expensive assumption on the list and the least often correct, and it is never ordered before the estimate is in writing.
The sequence exists because the expensive parts sit at the end of it. A board condemned before the supply has been measured under load gets replaced twice, and a sensor swapped instead of measured tells you nothing about the harness feeding it. Where the honest answer is that the fault is outside this shop's scope — a unit still inside the manufacturer's warranty, or a repair that needs a cabinet maker before it needs a technician — that gets said at step one rather than after a part has been ordered.
